Blunt Knife Co. is pleased to present a small event series highlighting alternative stories from Scotland, as part of the Scotland Year of Stories 2022.

The series consists of four events in August that support, showcase and encourage local storytelling and creativity from marginalised groups and emerging artists.

All events will take place at Blunt Knife Co., 41 Thistle Street, Edinburgh


Friday 19 August, 7pm

BUT WHERE ARE YOU REALLY FROM? 

A spoken-word performance night featuring local writers/poets speaking to the experience of 'otherness' in Scotland. We’ll hear from Mae Diansangu, Roshni Gallagher, Esraa Husain, Jj Fadaka and Hazel Peters.

Saturday 20 August, 2pm

MAKING MYTHS

A writing workshop for adults using the structures and archetypes of classic myth and legend, but bringing those into the present to create new mythologies for Scotland that include voices and issues of historically underrepresented groups. Presented by Mara Menzies (Mara the Storyteller).

ALTERNATIVE STORIES

A panel talk looking at where and how alternative stories are told in Scotland. Host Siân Bevan will be joined by Jules Stapleton Barnes from Somewhere LGBTQ+ magazine, Alycia Pirmohamed from Scottish BPOC Writers Network, and Laila Ghaffar from Clitbait.

SHOUT IT 

A workshop for freelance artists from marginalised communities, teaching new creatives how to promote themselves and their work, providing support and resources. Presented by Marian Blythe.
